No Entry Into La La Land

No “La La Land” Entry

Some folks believe that fantasy belongs strictly in books, shows, games and cartoons, neatly tucked into some fictional universe for pretend characters to experience. But I’m not satisfied with that – and you shouldn’t be, either. Let’s redefine the word F A N T A S Y.  Collectively we can bring the fantastic into our lives, our world, our reality. All our senses smell, taste, touch, hearing and sight can be fully immersed into the essence of the fantastic.

This is a call to those who feel the drudgery of the mundane has sucked the joy out of their soul. My own life used to have nothing grand or eventful to look forward to. Society tried to make me feel inadequate. I am a black biracial female that struggles with dyslexia, a mother raising an autistic child, a divorcee starting life over with a new husband. Neither of us had the means to live lavishly. We decided to LIVE the Fanta (short for fantasy) Lifestyle to the fullest. What that choice granted us outweighs the material things that the wealthy often chase after.

How? We build the fantastic – little by little, moment by moment. Thrift store finds, clearance racks and DIY creations have us looking like our own version of interdimensional Fanta Travelers. Now my warehouse worker husband James – who typically wears heavy metal t-shirts has the highest confidence dressing like a fine gentleman, regardless of the time period or realm we are in. This was the creative outlet we both needed.

I want to make it clear we are not inviting people into La La Land to be out of touch with reality or escape it. No, instead I say we make a fresh new reality full of fanta adventures anyone can do. This type of fandom isn’t the typical cosplay to dress up just for a photoshoot and call it a day. This is the cosplay you PLAY in! As Queen of Dreams, it is my royal duty to share new ideas weekly so a tribe of Fanta Seekers can find ways to enjoy this for themselves. So spread the word that ANTI-ADULT (made that word up ‘cause queens can) FUN is alive and well in 2021! That, my friends, I welcome you to instead.

“If you are a dreamer come in

If you are a dreamer a wisher a liar

A hoper a pray-er a magic-bean-buyer

If you’re a pretender come sit by my fire

For we have some flax golden tales to spin

Come in! Come in!”
